MADRID, 6 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish women’s water polo team was proclaimed champion of the FINA World League Superfinal by beating Hungary (18-19 on penalties after an 11-11) in a tremendous outcome at the Real Club Náutico de Tenerife.

Those of Miki Oca signed their full victories, five out of five, with the support of the Canarian grandstand. In the fight for gold, the exchange of goals was continuous, with Anni, Bea and Paula Leitón awakening the host’s attack (3-3).

Irene González was the protagonist of a second set that was also even (6-6), while Szilagyi was the one who gave the reins to Hungary after the break (8-7). The Spanish defense suffered at times, more than in previous games.

However, Spain took quality at the decisive moment to tie the partial again (9-9). The tension was felt in a controversial play that meant the expulsion of Paula Leitón and the Hungarian Fargo, with the game stopped for more than 10 minutes.

Paula was finally reinstated after the ‘challenge’ and Judith Forca scored twice to make it 9-11 with just over two minutes to go. Hungary also showed their quality to force penalties at the buzzer, but Martina Terré dressed as a hero by saving three of them.
