Spain meets Turkey and looks at Hungary

MADRID, Jan. 18 (SportsFinding) –

The Spanish water polo team has done its homework this Saturday by clearly imposing itself on Turkey (7-24) on the third day of the Men's European Championship, which is being played in Budapest, and must wait for the result of Hungary against Malta to know if it sneaks directly into the quarterfinals or if it must go through the toll of the eighths.

The objective this Saturday in the pool of the Duna Arena was clear: to achieve the greatest possible goal difference to put pressure on the combined magiar, who later (19.00) will play with the colista to settle the order of Group C. And it is that the first classified will be the prize of the direct ticket for the quarterfinals next Wednesday, while the second must go through the eighths of Monday.

Those of David Martín did not fail before the Ottomans, who arrived at the event after overcoming Malta, and added a +17 to +16 with which they already had after surpassing the Mediterranean combined (7-23) and tying with the Hungarians (11 -eleven). Thus, they present a +33 that will force Hungary to win by 20 goals difference if they want to take the first position.

However, the Spaniards were slow to carburete in the Duna Arena, despite the many goals of Blai Mallarach and Felipe Perrone (0-2). The team led by Oytun Okman remained in the fight during the first quarter, which the Spaniards took for an income of two (3-5).

The duties were still to be done, and a partial of 1-6 before the intermission returned the tranquility. The goals of Perrone, Munárriz, De Toro and Mallarach led to Spain from 4-7 to 4-11 with which the break was reached and was not interrupted after the resumption.

David Martín's team, which introduced Dani López Pinedo under sticks to rest Edu Lorrio, continued drilling the Ottoman goal and dried his opponent with a 0-9 run between the two quarters (4-16) to end a 5-19 that was still insufficient to complicate things to Hungary.

Thus, in recent times they sought the goal with insistence, until ending the contest with a +17 that puts pressure on the Magyars. Alberto Munárriz was the top scorer in Spain, with five goals, while Álvaro Granados and Felipe Perrone finished with four each.
