The Spanish badminton team was one step away from qualifying for the European Team Championship by falling (2-3) this Sunday against Ukraine in the phase held in Switzerland.
After defeating the host on Saturday with Carolina Marín already in the team, Spain played the pass against a Ukraine that they began beating with the Olympic champion in 2016 in their women’s singles against Polina Buhrova (21-15, 21-9 )
Ukraine came back from the tie with the victory of Danylo Bosniuk over Kike Peñalver (19-21, 21-16, 17-21), and with the victory in the women’s doubles. Clara Azurmendi and Bea Corrales lost (21-18, 17-21, 18-21) to Mariia Stoliarenko and Yelyzaveta Zharka.
The men’s doubles of Carlos Piris and Joan Monroy was in charge of keeping Spain in the fight for the final victory, signing a serious victory against Glib Beketov and Mykhaylo Makhnovskiy (21-15, 21-11). However, in the decisive duel, the mixed doubles, Lucía Rodríguez and Rubén García succumbed to Stoliarenko and Bosniuk (21-11, 21-15).
