Spain is in the semis with a review of Romania

BARCELONA, 12 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish men's water polo team beat Romania this Friday (24-7) in the unequal quarter-final duel of the European Championship in Croatia, in a review by the Spanish against the Romanians that earned David Martín's men to get into the fight for the medals without excessive wear and tear in the face of those 'semi's, which will be against Italy or Montenegro.

Spain is already waiting for a rival for its semi-final duel after making good the predictions that gave it the clear favorite against Romania. Without a doubt, the least contested quarterfinal. A crossing of the most favorable in the last major tournaments in which Spain did not hesitate or let go.

Great training session, so to speak, against a Romania that never became a rival, with the 4-2 score in the second set – favorable, like all of them, to the Spaniards – being the best moment of a match in which the Romanians They suffered at all times in the water of the Bazeni Mladost swimming pool in Zagreb.

In their last match, at the 2022 European Championship in Split, Spain already won by a clear 16-9. This time, the result was even greater for the Spaniards who should take advantage of this good inertia and less physical wear in the semi-final that is to come.

Much difference compared to the last match in this European Championship, against a France that put Spain on the ropes, more than expected, despite the victory (9-6) to close the group stage. So this setback to Romania, this quarter-final walk, could be good for recovering morale and believing in the chances of success.

Both goalkeepers played against Romania, with Unai Aguirre in the first half and Edu Lorrio in the second, and all the players except those ruled out. And, except for Miguel de Toro and Blai Mallarach, everyone scored against the Romanians, with Álvaro Granados being the top scorer of the afternoon, with 6 goals.

Bernat Sanahuja and Roger Tahull scored 4 goals each and the buoyant scored a rather unusual one, completing a quick counter and not from his natural position; more static and fighting. Spain could and did everything, as it wanted, against a Romania that celebrated its presence in the next World Cup before this duel and that, with these quarterfinals, encountered its final monster.

Now, Spain will have to raise its level no matter what. If the other quarterfinal match is won by Montenegro, they will have to repeat their performance from the group stage (12-14 win). If Italy is the rival, with the transalpine team being the favorite in principle, the next challenge, this coming Sunday, will be even more important.
