Spain has not beat Germany since the World Cup in South Africa

The Spanish team, which will receive this Tuesday Germany in The Cartuja, has not beaten the German team since the semifinal of South Africa World Cup, when a head of Carles Puyol, at the exit of a corner thrown by Xavi Hernandez, sealed the historic 1-0 that gave way to the greatest moment of glory in its history.

The victory at Moses Mabhida in Durban was one of the highlights in the long relationship between the two teams.

It was the confirmation of a team that had been crowned continental champion two years before precisely against Germany in Vienna, with the goal of Fernando Torres, and that again cut the way to the 'Mannschaft' to obtain, four days later in Soccer City Johannesburg, the first and only world title.

From there Spain has not been able to with the Germans. He fell in Balaídos with a goal from Madrid player Toni Kroos (0-1) in 2014, in 2018 he equaled one in Düsseldorf in another friendly and in September of this year he achieved the same result in Stuttgart in a meeting of the present League of Nations, in this case with a goal in the last action of the extension of the Valencian José Gayá.

Spain and Germany have met 24 times, with seven wins for La Roja, eight draws and nine defeats, 25 goals for and 30 against.

Spain, which won the first match played in Cologne (1-2) in May 1935 with a double from Isidro Lángara, suffered numerous troubles against the Germans over the years, since aside from a 1-1 in the second game of the United States'94 World Cup, with a spectacular goal from the right wing by Jon Andoni Goikoetxea, they were always rivals almost impossible to overcome, especially in the great moments.

The Germans won the 1988 Eurocup in Munich (2-0), in the 1966 World Cup in England they beat the then continental champion 2-1 at Villa Park in Birmingham, and in the second phase of the 1982 World Cup in Spain they he repeated the result at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Spain took revenge on those eliminations in Euro'84 with the auction of Antonio Maceda, but especially in Vienna and Durban.

A match against Germany in Palma, on February 12, 2003, allowed Raúl González to become the national team's top scorer by beating his friend Fernando Hierro.

He scored twice against Oliver Kahn in the 3-1 victory and reached 31. He finished with La Roja with 44, but then the Madrid player was surpassed by David Villa, who remains the top scorer of the Spanish team with 59 points.
