Spain had championship numbers

The Italian team was proclaimed European champion this past Sunday after 53 years in a fast-paced final that culminated in a penalty shoot-out in which Mancini's men came out gracefully. Today, the newspaper 'L’Equipe' has published the statistics of the European Championship in which Spain is very close to the azzurra in multiple statistics.

In terms of shots per game, Italy is the team that has shot the most in the entire tournament, followed by Spain. The European champion has shot 127 times in the Eurocup, 18.1 on goal (5.1 per game), while Luis Enrique's men fired 115 shots, of which 19.2 were on target and 7.3 per game.

Italy has been, together with Spain, the best attack of the entire European Championship, both teams scoring 13 goals throughout the tournament. The difference between goals scored and expected goals (clear chances of scoring) is overwhelming in favor of the Spanish team, which has accumulated 17.08 clear chances of scoring in the European Championship and Italy has practically touched perfection with 13.15.

Spain has been, by far, the team that has had the most possession in Europe. Compared to Italy, Luis Enrique's men have accumulated 72.5% possession per game, while the azurra has barely reached 53.6, being the sixth in the classification. In passing accuracy, Spain also leads the ranking with 89.6% success, Italy being in sixth place with 86.7. Regarding individual statistics, Dani Olmo was the player who tried the most shots in the entire European Championship (21), followed by Insigne and Immobile (19 and 18), which outperform Álvaro Morata, who is fourth.

The first Spaniard who tried the most passes before a shot was Jordi Alba. The left back of Barcelona occupies the fourth position in this facet, being surpassed by Verratti (14), De Bruyne (13) and Lorenzo Insigne (13). Pedri, for his part, is the Eurocup player with the most passes in the last 30 meters, hitting 177 of the 200 passes he tried in the rival field and followed precisely by Jordi Alba, who had a success of 146 passes of 175 attempts. Morata is the second player who caused the most fouls (16), by Jorginho's 19, while Pedri has only been surpassed by Jorginho and Phillips as the players who covered the most distance throughout the tournament.
