Spain goes to the Austrian Alps in search of medals in the Mountain and Trail Running World Championships

MADRID, 6 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish team will try to shine in the second edition of the Mountain and Trail Running World Championships, which will be held from 7 to 10 in Innsbruck-Stubai, in the Austrian Alps, and get closer to the results achieved last year in Thailand, where they won seven medals.

Spain comes with a representation of 20 athletes who will begin their participation this Wednesday with the Vertical Uphill, where Álex García Carrillo will defend or try to improve his 2022 bronze along with Miquel Corbera, Eduardo Hernández and Dani Osanz to fight Kenyans and Swiss. Onditz Iturbe, fifth last year, leads the women’s team with Malen Osa, Ainhoa ​​Sanz and Silvia Lara.

For Thursday it will be the turn of the Short Trail, where Spain defends the gold for women’s teams with Núria Gil, runner-up in Europe, Oihana Kortazar, Natalia González, Ikram Rharsalla and Ainara Urrutia. Zaid Ait Malek, Dimas Pereira, Jonatan Arobes, Mario Olmedo and Jan Margarit will seek to be close to fighting for the podium in the men’s competition.

The Long Trail test on Friday also presents hope for Spain, with Gemma Arenas from La Mancha, bronze in 2022 and who together with Azara García de los Salmones and Rosa María Lara will seek to place the team again on the podium after world silver. The men’s, for its part, was bronze in Thailand and will repeat the quartet with José Ángel Fernández, Aritz Egea, Marcos Ramos and Borja Fernández.

Saturday will be the last day of competition with the Mountain Classic, where Spain was third in the men’s teams in the last edition, a success that they will try to improve or repeat with Andreu Blanes, Alejandro García Carrillo and Miquel Corbera. Onditz Iturbe, María Ordóñez, Malen Osa and Laura Domene will form the women’s team.
