Spain gets into 'semis' with revenge on Greece

BARCELONA, Jan. 21 (SportsFinding) –

The Spanish women's water polo team won Greece on Tuesday (9-12) in the quarterfinals of the Budapest European Championship (Hungary) and gets into the semifinals, where they could meet the host team, after beating in a Good duel to some helenas that defeated the 'Warriors' two years ago at the Barcelona event.

Spain takes the rematch of the last European, which took place at the Bernat Picornell Pools in summer 2018, when it ran into the Greek team in the semifinals and lost by a tight 11-9. This time, he endorsed the opponent 9-12 and being superior for most of the game.

The start was marked by Hurricane Margarita Plevritou. The Greek scored the three goals of her team in the first period and she trailed the initial 0-2 alone for those of Miki Oca, who returned the coin from the buoy with Paula Leitón and Maica García Godoy to close the first quarter 3-4 above.

The second period (2-2) was of defenses and Spain went to the long rest with a slight advantage of 5-6, unable to get three goals up as when, for example, Roser Tarragó sent the ball to the crossbar after a great stop at the other goal of a Laura Ester who went from less to more.

Although Spain was not fine in the actions of numerical superiority, the third period (1-3) was key to take advantage and know, in the water and on the scoreboard, superior to the rivals. In Greece, Margarita Plevritou would not appear again until the end of the crash and Georgios Morfesis found no other way to the goal.

Yes Spain did, with Bea Ortiz, Maica García Godoy or Anni Espar, the offensive leaders of a Spanish team that defended well, that moved with agility in the buoys and that moved the ball well to find open shots, of Ortiz or Judith Forca, for a maximum advantage of 5 goals.

In this first match of the Royal European, that of the crosses, Spain complied and in addition to winning that rematch he won the right to be in the semifinals and get closer to the medals. However, there is no more pressure than trying to win the championship because, the ticket for the Olympic Games, they have already won it from the World Cup.
