The seven-time champion defeats Italy and will face France or Germany in search of another final
MADRID, 6 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish women's roller hockey team beat Italy (3-1) this Wednesday to finish first in Group A and advance directly to the semifinals of the European Championship that is being held in the Girona town of Olot.
Spain fulfilled its favoritism despite having less aim than the two previous games and for a place in the final it will face France or Germany on Friday (8:30 p.m.). However, Ricard Muñoz's team, which earned them a tie to be first, dominated the match and goalkeeper Verónica Caretta was the one who gave excitement to the scoreboard.
The third day in Olot already brought the prize of the 'semi' and the seven-time European champion did not fail. Italy, historically surpassed by both Spain and Portugal, on the podium of the last four European Championships, started ahead through Elena Tamiozzo.
Muñoz's team did not lose their nerve, despite the punishment of a first half in which they had already forgiven many chances, and Sara Roces made it 1-1 five minutes before the break. After the restart, Spain attacked Caretta again, but the goal, after five goals against Portugal and eight against France, was conspicuous by its absence.
Furthermore, the host had to monitor the Italian counterattack, but in the decisive section, with the entry of Mariona Colomer, the Spanish push intensified. Two minutes from the end, Aina Florenza made it 2-1 for the entire squad and Colomer herself scored the third next. The favorite is now looking at the medals.
