The Spanish sailing team completed the World Cup in The Hague with a seventh country place for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the ILCA 7 that joined 470, 49er, 49er FX, Nacra 17, iQFOiL M and iQFOiL F, in the absence of a last day in which Joaquín Blanco will participate this Sunday in the ILCA 7 Medal Race.
Spain, which also added the silver and bronze medals from Xammar/Brugman and Botín/Trittel, largely fulfilled its objective, present in 10 classes in The Hague. After a fateful day on Friday in terms of wind, ILCA 6 and 7 carried out their last two tests to close the TOP 10.
In ILCA 7, Joaquín Blanco maintained eighth place in the table, ensuring entry into the final regatta, while Joel Rodríguez closed his partials with a second in the last regatta to finish in 13th place, both positions in Paris 2024.
“We expected to get between seven and eight places and we have seven, so the result for me is excellent. Spain has always been one of the first countries at an international level, but it is one of the first times that we have classified so many classes at the same time beginning,” said Francisco Gil.
“I think this justifies the work of technicians, coaches and sailors, of what they have overcome to achieve this result,” added the director of Olympic preparation, in statements provided by the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation (RFEV).
