Spain breaks the record for participation in a skeleton World Cup

MADRID, 17 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish skeleton team has broken its record of participation in a World Cup event thanks to the pilots Adrián Rodríguez, Ana Torres-Quevedo and Clara Aznar, who have made history at the Chinese Yanqing circuit, venue of the inaugural event of the IBSF World Cup 2023-24.

Furthermore, the three Spanish pilots made their debut in a World Cup event and did so with good feelings and good results, setting a good precedent and all this under the supervision of Ander Mirambell, former pilot and now coach and pioneer of skeleton in Spain.

In fact, the presence of Adrián Rodríguez, Ana Torres-Quevedo and Clara Aznar in this international event breaks the record for maximum participation held by Ander Mirambell and María Montejano, who participated in 2018 in the World Cup.

The first to make his debut in a World Cup, on this Chinese track in Yanqing, was the only member in the men’s event and a ‘veteran’ of the Spanish team, Adrián Rodríguez (27 years old), who completed the two races with a total time of 2:09.18 which left him in 18th position.

“We have just finished the first World Cup, the debut for the three of us. In my case, I am satisfied with the result, it is the position I was looking for. The first descent did not go very well, but I was able to solve it on the second and I have been able to set a personal best at the start and get closer to the personal best on the way down. Satisfied and prepared for the Spanish Championship,” he said in statements provided by the RFEDH.

In the women’s team, with two Spanish women for the first time in the World Cup, both Ana Torres-Quevedo (22 years old) and Clara Aznar (16) beat the best result achieved by María Montejano in the competition (20th, in 2017), with 16th and 17th final place respectively.

“The first part of the circuit was complicated for me, then I tried to fix it in the second part and quite well. I also made a mark at the start, so I’m happy and now also for the Spanish Championship,” said Clara Aznar. .

For her part, Ana Torres-Quevedo from Madrid left “very happy.” “I have done two good descents, the second was a little worse, it was a little more complicated than the first, but with the first I am very happy. It was a mark for both the start and the descent, so very, very good The truth is. I think that the three of us, in general, are happy to have debuted and to have been able to debut here,” he acknowledged.

The next appointment of the national team will take place on November 26 in Innsbruck (Austria), with the Alquiber de Skeleton 2023 Spanish Championship.
