MADRID, 11 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Spain took its ninth Olympic place for Paris 2024, thanks to the 34th place of Ana Moncada at the ILCA 6 World Championship (Laser Radial), held in Mar del Plata (Argentina), a ticket for the country, so it will be the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation (RFEV) who designates which athlete attends the event in the French capital.
The Spanish team returns from the Argentine city with the ninth place in the country for Paris 2024, of the ten total classes that will compete in the French capital. Representatives Ana Moncada, Cristina Pujol and Isabel Hernández started in fourth place in the ranking of nations and did not disappoint in the test.
Six months before the Games, Moncada finished 34th and sealed the Olympic ticket; she followed by Cristina Pujol (46th) and Isabel Hernández (50th). The Danish Anne-Marie Rindom revalidated her world title, accompanied on the podium by the North American Charlotte Rose and the Belgian Emma Plasschaert.
Only France, as host, has representation in all ten Olympic sailing classes; and they are followed, with nine places, by Australia, China and New Zealand, and now Spain, which has emerged as the leading European power.
“It is a new milestone for Spanish sailing that places us as the main international power, being the European country with the largest number of classes classified so far. We surpass Great Britain, Italy and the Netherlands, which currently have eight places and we are approaching the goal of being in Paris 2024 with representation in the ten Olympic classes,” said Xisco Gil, director of Olympic preparation.
The next international events for the Spanish Olympic sailing team will be the ILCA 7 class World Championship, in Adelaide (Australia) between January 26 and 31, and the iQFOiL World Championship, which will be held in Lanzarote on January 29 to February 3.
