Spain achieves its first victory of the season in SailGP in the Persian Gulf

MADRID, 13 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish SailGP team celebrated this Sunday the first victory of the season in a day in the Persian Gulf in which Australia was crowned in the Dubai Sail Grand Prix presented by P&O Marinas, with one of the closest finals so far, followed by close by France and Great Britain.

After a strategic failure on the first day of the race, Spain knew how to make a clean slate to achieve its first victory in SailGP with Jordi Xammar on the second day in Dubai. After seventh and fifth place, the third race of the day was the golden opportunity for the roosters, who managed to dominate the fleet after a spectacular start that led them to cross the finish line in first position, well ahead of the rest.

Xammar showed his tenacity and leadership over the F50, forming a perfect synchronization together with Florian Trittel, Paula Barceló, Diego Botin, Joan Cardona, Joel Rodriguez (first race) and Jake Lilley (second and third).

“We are very happy, it has been a day where we have been able to apply all the work we have done, we have made two good starts and we have finished with our first victory in SailGP this season. I think it is important to have broken that barrier and continue with this line that remains of the season,” said the Spanish rider.

“We are satisfied to have been able to execute the plan that we had been working on and finish this Grand Prix with two very good starts. We really want to continue working along these lines, because the Spanish SailGP team can achieve much more and that is what we are going for.” to focus on the remaining events to finish strong,” he added.

Australia was also the protagonist with its exciting victory over France and Great Britain, after also suffering on Saturday due to a day marked by the absence of wind. The Australian team (60) now leads the general standings with nine points more than New Zealand, 10 more than France and 12 more than the British.
