England manager Gareth Southgate is not in favor of a boycott of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar (to be held from November 21 to December 18 in the Persian Gulf country) due to the human rights issue. England faces Switzerland this Saturday in a friendly match in preparation for the World Cup.
“Organizations like Amnesty International think that things will change more there (in Qatar) if we go. In any case, it is not a decision that my players or I can make,” Southgate replied this Friday when asked about a possible boycott of the World Cup. Qatar 2022.

“I think it’s my understanding that the FA have had discussions about this with organizations like Amnesty International. And they think it would change things there more if we go,” Southgate added.
“I don’t think a boycott would work. Regarding the biggest problem, everything that happened with the construction of the stadiums, unfortunately we can’t do anything,” said the England coach.
Just this week Harry Kane, captain of England, said that the English players will use their participation in the World Cup “to put the focus on the problems of Qatar”.
