‘Sotheby’s’ puts up for auction the shirt with which Maradona scored his two goals against England in Mexico’86

LONDON, 6 Apr. (dpa / EP) –

The shirt worn by Argentine Diego Armando Maradona in the remembered quarter-final match against England in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico will be auctioned in London and could fetch up to six million pounds sterling (more than 7.1 million euros) .

The well-known auction house ‘Sotheby’s’ was in charge of putting the valuation of the garment before the start of the Internet auction that will begin on April 20 and end on May 4.

Maradona, who died in November 2020, was the great protagonist of that match by scoring the two goals of the 2-1 victory, one of them known as ‘The Hand of God’, by deceiving everyone by finishing with his hand stuck to his head about the exit of Peter Shilton, and the other after surely leaving the best personal play in the history of the World Cups, where he was dodging all the rivals that got in his way.

After the match, the ’10’ exchanged his shirt with the Englishman Steve Hodge, who had it on display at the National Football Museum of England in the city of Manchester until the former player decided to sell it.
