Sorribes is eliminated in the quarterfinals in Monastir

MADRID, 13 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Spanish tennis player Sara Sorribes lost this Friday 1-6, 7-6(5) and 7-5 to Slovak Rebecca Sramkova, thus being eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Monastir (Tunisia) WTA 250 tournament being played on hard court.

After three hours and 21 minutes of play, Sorribes saw her progress in the penultimate round of the tournament cut short, having experienced ups and downs on both sides. The first set began with a break by the Slovakian, continued with a six-game win for the Castellón native and in half an hour the set was already decided.

Nothing to do with the subsequent set. Despite Sorribes starting it with a favourable break and consolidating that advantage immediately, the duel entered a phase where neither player was comfortable with their service turns and everything was tied (3-3). In the seventh game, the Spaniard had a chance to break; although she did not materialise it, it was a warning of what she was going to achieve later in the eleventh.

She then took the Castellón advantage to win the match, but her rival resisted with a 15-40 that she ended up taking advantage of to force the ‘tie-break’. Sramkova started that scenario with a 0-2 for her score and knew how to manage her profit in difficult moments (2-2, 3-3), until winning 7-5 and leading the match towards the decisive third set.

And the Slovakian continued like a shot. She made two breaks and did not suffer in her first service turn, finding herself with a flattering 3-0. However, on the other side of the net was a wild boar who won the fourth game on return after five break points, tied her next serve to love and broke Sramkova’s serve twice more (5-3).

On the verge of winning the match, with an advantage of 40 when she served, the Castellón native threw away her work and began to lose ground. Not in vain, the Central European quickly sealed the definitive comeback in this crazy face-to-face match. Sramkova sealed four games in a row, finally securing victory and securing a ticket to the semi-finals.
