Sorribes and Masarova say goodbye to Birmingham and Berlin

MADRID, 17 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis players Sara Sorribes and Rebeka Masarova have said goodbye in the first round of the Birmingham (United Kingdom) and Berlin tournaments, respectively, after losing to the Canadian Leylah Fernández (6-1, 6-1) and the Czech Marketa Vondrousova (6-4, 6-3).

Sorribes fell in his debut in Birmingham, played on grass and in the WTA 250 category, by a double 6-1. Despite breaking her rival’s serve in the first game of the match, the Castellón player, number 57 in the world, suffered three breaks that condemned her in the first set. Already in the second, three new breaks by the North American player put an end to the contest after one hour and three minutes of play.

Nor could she advance in Berlin, a WTA 500 category tournament and also on grass, Rebeka Masarova, who lost in two sets to the world number six, the Czech Marketa Vondrousova (6-4, 6-3). A solitary break in the first set gave the lead to her opponent, who took a 4-1 lead in the second set and, after the Spaniard’s only break, signed another break with which she closed the match.
