“Some will think I'm delusional but I can win Wimbledon”

Andy Murray continues on his long road to return to the elite after several interventions on the hip forced him to stop when he was number 1 in the world. Despite all the obstacles that he has encountered and the doubts that he has generated with his latest performances, Murray maintains the illusion of returning in the great events of tennis.

In an interview with Amazon Prime Video, Murray said that he can still play his best tennis and even dreams of being a champion again at Wimbledon despite the fact that for many that would be crazy. “I know that I am still capable of playing at the highest level. I wanted to have played in Australia because I felt capable of going far. It may be very ambitious to think about winning a Grand Slam, but I feel that, in a few months, I can have that opportunity if I stay healthy and with competition rhythm. I want to be at Wimbledon and feel like I have a chance to be champion again. I need a few months to train well, win matches in big matches and be healthy. Some will think I'm delusional, but I can win Wimbledon, I can do it. “

Murray hopes to improve his performances in recent tournaments (he could not play in Australia after testing positive for coronavirus), where he reached the final at the Biella Challenger and where he lost in the first round in Montpellier and in the round of 16 in Rotterdam against Rublev. “I hope to play much better than in my last three tournaments. I felt a good feeling in the level of play that I had against Haase in the last set and in the first against Rublev. I just need to find a way to maintain that level for hours and not for 20 or 30 minutes. Also, that week was important because I trained with Coric and Tsitsipas. “

From this Wednesday Murray has a new opportunity to continue looking for his way to the elite in the Miami Masters 1,000, where he will attend with an invitation (the British is 119th in the ATP ranking) and where he will debut against Lloyd Harris, a recent finalist in Dubai, with the possibility of meeting Roberto Bautista in the second round if the Scotsman manages to overcome his debut. Murray, winner of the last two individual Olympic golds in tennis in London 2012 and Rio 2016, wants to continue dreaming of his return to the tennis elite and Miami will be the next stop before the great goal of Wimbledon.
