Solskjaer, “desperate” to win the League Cup

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Manchester United coach, said on Wednesday that he hopes to get his hands on this 2020-21 English League Cup, which would be a big step towards winning more titles in the future. United plays this Wednesday the quarterfinals of the League Cup against Everton. Solskjaer admits to being “desperate” for this trophy. He has not won any title as a United manager (which he has managed since December 19, 2018, when he replaced José Mourinho).

Manchester United last won the League Cup in 2017, with Mourinho as manager. With Solskjaer, the Old Trafford team fell in the semifinals last season against their citizen rival, Pep Guardiola's City (who later won the trophy by beating Aston Villa 1-2 on March 1, 2020, less than two weeks before the competitions were stopped due to the coronavirus pandemic).

“We are desperate to have a trophy in our hands, these players are desperate to learn how to win. We want to improve each season and to improve compared to the last one means reaching the final. And when you reach a final, the only thing that counts is winning it, “said Solskjaer on Tuesday at a press conference prior to the match against Everton.

Manchester United have won the English League Cup five times in their history. As a player Solskjaer managed with United in 2005-06, but was injured. “It was the first for Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic. I was near the end of my career ”.

Lingard will return to the team for the first time since September

Solskjaer announced that Jesse Lingard will return to the team for the first time since September. The English winger has only played this season in the League Cup due to Covid-19. Lingard has not suffered from coronavirus, but has been isolated on several occasions in recent months after having been in contact with people who had tested positive. In the Premier table, United is currently 3rd, 5 points behind leaders Liverpool.
