Soldier, eternal youth

Roberto Soldado scored at Mestalla and gave hope to the final minutes of Granada, which came to lose 2-0 during a stretch of the second half. The Nasrid ‘9’, who lives in eternal youth despite being close to 36 years old (his birthday on May 27), scored his eleventh official goal of the season against Valencia, three of them in the last four games.

The Valencian striker has already equaled the scoring records of the past year and is currently experiencing his best moment of the campaign. His 11 goals are distributed as follows: 6 in the League, 3 in the Europa League and 2 in the Copa del Rey. To these 11 targets we must add two assists. All this having participated in 35 games and accumulating a total of 1,753 official minutes so far this season.

Soldado has only improved these goal numbers in one of the last eight seasons, 2017-18, in which he scored 12 goals in 34 games for Fenerbahçe. In his first year in Granada he also scored 11 goals and distributed seven assists in 39 games played.

After having overcome the coronavirus at the beginning of the season and after a muscle injury that made him miss the European first leg against Naples, Soldier shines again and is the offensive benchmark of a Granada in which he has become indispensable after the injury of Luis Suárez, who has been out of combat for more than a month and who still has several weeks left in the dry dock.

The forward wants more and hopes to continue giving joy to the fans of Granada at the end of the season. “There are two very nice months of competition left and you have to be prepared. The most beautiful of the season remains, which is the end. You have to rest these two weeks, prepare well, There are games ahead and you have to be more than prepared and see the best Granada. There are still many games left and at the end it is where everything is decided for all the teams, “he said after the game in Valencia.

The renewal, three games

Soldado will automatically renew his contract with Granada, which expires on June 30, when he plays a minimum of 45 minutes in at least 25 official matches this season. To date, he has already accumulated 22 matches, so he is very close to achieving that goal of securing one more year of contract and continuing to enhance the beautiful story that he is starring in Los Cármenes.
