Slovakia and Romania turn a deaf ear to the ‘biscotto’

MADRID, 25 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Slovakia and Romania will face each other this Wednesday (6:00 p.m./Teledeporte) in a match in which the threat of the possible ‘biscotto’ will be very present, since both teams will qualify for the round of 16 of the Euro Cup in Germany if the clash ends in tie.

Slovakia comes into the match as third in Group E, where all its members have three points, after their surprising victory against Belgium (0-1) and their subsequent defeat against Ukraine (2-1), and to achieve qualification for the round of 16. In the end, a draw is worth it, while if he loses, he would be out if the Belgians do not lose.

For its part, Romania arrives at the match as leader of the group, although tied with its three rivals, after the exhibition (3-0) that they showed in the debut against Ukraine, and the defeat in the second match against the ‘Red Devils’ ( 2-0).

Like their rivals, a draw would give them the mathematical ticket to the round of 16 of the Euro Cup, which they have not achieved since the 2000 edition, while in the case of victory they could also opt to be first in the group and pulling from the goals in the case of a tie on points with Belgium.

Therefore, Slovakia and Romania must decide their attitude towards this match in which a draw can ensure their passage, although the goals scored in their match and in Belgium-Romania could also come into play.

“We haven’t taken out the calculator, even though it is common practice in Slovakia,” warned Slovakian midfielder Stanislas Lobotka. “We are playing for first place, we will give everything in every second, as we have done other times. Yes, a draw against Slovakia is enough for us and we will be happy if it ends like this, but for that we must be ready to win this match,” said Edi Iordanescu. , Romanian coach.

Francesco Calzona’s team, which only surpassed the group stage in 2016, as well as in the 2010 World Cup, will look for a slow game, with few opportunities, and in which they put pressure on their rivals and bring out their strength defensive, as they achieved in the first duel against Belgium, in which they surprised the great favorite of the group.

For its part, Romania, after the brilliance of the debut, with a performance by Dennis Man and Nicolae Stanciu, in this third match they will have to regain defensive security, where Radu Dragusin and goalkeeper Florin Nita are shining, the second with the most interventions in the tournament after the Georgian Giorgi Mamardashvili.

In the three previous matches, the balance is one victory for Romania and two draws. The only victory came in the qualification for the 2000 Euro Cup, in which the Romanians made it to the round of 16 for the last time, and they did so after beating the Slovaks 1-5 in the tournament preview. The last match was in 2013, a match that ended 1-1, a result that both could sign to be in the round of 16.
