The health authorities of the United Arab Emirates have reported on Tuesday the existence of six new cases of coronavirus – two Russians, two Italians, one German and one Colombian-, in the platoon of the cycling Tour of this country canceled last week before finishing.

As reported by the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention, the six cyclists were exposed to the two technicians during the Tour of the Emirates, which was canceled on Thursday of last week due to cases of coronavirus discovered.

The two Colombian cyclists present in the race are Fernando Gaviria, of UAE Team Emirates, and Hernando Bohorquez, of Astana, and the latter has already left the country, although the authorities have not announced the names of those affected.

These are some of the 612 people examined after two members of the UAE Team Emirates technical team tested positive for COVID-19. The entire caravan of the race, from cyclists to journalists, was confined to two Abu Dhabi hotels for testing. As they were negative, they were leaving, but four of the 20 quarantined teams, Cofidis, Groupama-FDJ, UAE Team and Gazprom, are still in the hotels.

On Sunday, the UAE team said that, despite the fact that all its members had been negative, it had decided to extend the quarantine in the hotel as a precaution. “Despite the possibility of returning and due to certain cases of influenza in our group and other teams, we will continue looking at the state of each one and we will return with the security of not contagion“said the formation of Gaviria.

“We are aware that prolonging our instance in isolation will compromise our sporting ambitions in the upcoming events,” added the team, whose leader is Slovenian. Tadej Pogacar, second in the Tour of the Emirates after Adam Yates, declared winner after the cancellation.
