Sinner approaches an unchanged top 3 after his victory in Melbourne

MADRID, 29 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner tightened the 'top 4' of the ATP ranking, after lifting his first 'Grand Slam' at the Australian Open, placing himself a few points behind the current 'podium' led by the Serbian Novak Djokovic, with the Spanish Carlos Alcaraz and Russian Daniil Medvedev, second and third, respectively.

This Sunday Sinner won the first 'Grand Slam' title of his career after signing a historic comeback against the Russian Daniil Medvedev in the final of the Australian Open (3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3), after more than three and a half hours of play.

A result that keeps him fourth in the ATP ranking, although only 455 points behind the Russian, who is third and who will have to defend a large number of points in the coming months. Thus, the Italian threatens the 'top 3', even with Alcaraz, who fell in the quarterfinals in Melbourne, only 1,000 points away; and Djokovic, first, at just over 1,500.

The Serbian loses 1,200 points after falling in the semifinals against the Italian and not being able to match the title he won in 2023. This makes him even closer – at 600 points – for the El Palmar tennis player, since he lost in September of the year past the status of number one in the world. However, Djokovic will be able to score abundant points in the American Masters 1,000 in which he did not participate last year, while the Spaniard will have to defend them.

For his part, Rafa Nadal, absent in Australia due to injury, falls 192 places in the ranking and is now 638th in the world. Although his participation in the various tournaments would not be in danger, since he will enter through protected ranking, as in Doha, or with invitations from the competition itself.

In the rest of the Spanish 'Armada', Alejandro Davidovich, Jaume Munar and Pedro Martínez rise positions in the 'top 100', with the man from Malaga close to the 'top 20'. While Roberto Carballés, Bernabé Zapata and Albert Ramos lose positions.
