Sinner and Djokovic fulfill their debut and are already in the second round of the Australian Open

MADRID, 13 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Italian Jannik Sinner, world number one, has advanced to the second round of the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the season to be played on a hard surface, after beating the Chilean Nicolas Jarry in three sets (7-6(2) , 7-6(5), 6-1) in two hours and 42 minutes of play, while Novak Djokovic, a 10-time winner in Melbourne, came back against the American Nishesh Basavareddy (4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2) to get into the second round.

Sinner and Djokovic, two of the top favorites to win the Australian Open, have completed their debuts and are already in the second round of the tournament. The Italian won on his serve – 83% of first serves won and only two break points against – over Jarry, who was only able to hold on in the first two sets thanks to his good level of service. Despite this, Sinner was more successful in the tie breaks of the first and second, to finish the match in the third set with a resounding 6-1.

For his part, Djokovic had to come back in the match against the 18-year-old American Nishesh Basavareddy, who surprised the Serbian by taking the first set of the match (6-4). But Nole reacted in time and, with a toned and effective serve – 18 direct serves in the last three sets – he turned around a match that ended up closing in four sets (4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2) in two hours and 57 minutes of play.

The big surprise of the day in the men’s draw was the elimination of the Greek Stefanos Tsipsipas, seed number 11 in the tournament, who fell to the American Alex Michelsen in four sets (7-5, 6-3, 2-6, 6 -4) in two hours and 45 minutes of meeting.

In the women’s team, the Polish Iga Swiatek, world number two, advanced to the second round of the tournament after winning her first round match against the Czech Katerina Siniakova in two sets (6-3, 6-4). In addition, American Coco Gauff, the number three seed in the tournament, also reached the second round of the tournament after beating her compatriot Sofia Kenin by a double 6-3.
