Simone Inzaghi: “We have a two-goal advantage, but it will be difficult for us”

MADRID, 18 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Inter Milan coach, Simone Inzaghi, stressed this Tuesday that, despite the “two-goal advantage” of his pupils over SL Benfica for the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinals, “it will be difficult” to close the qualifying round in the heat of his public.

Despite the favorable score, Inzaghi was not confident that the task was done: “We have a two-goal advantage, but it will be difficult for us. We will have to play with intensity because Benfica runs and passes. We have to face them with our intensity”.

In the press conference prior to the match this Wednesday (9:00 p.m.) at the Giuseppe Meazza, Inzaghi only had words of praise for the Portuguese team. “We know how good our rival is. It will be a difficult game and we will have to give our best. We will have to work together if we want to go through,” he commented on it.

The Italian team is at a bad time in the domestic championship, since in the last five games they have only added one point, as Inzaghi himself pointed out: “We know that we have not had the trajectory that Inter should have in the league, as Many other teams have had problems, but there are still eight games left and we still have a margin.”

The interista coach assured that, despite the defeat against Monza last Saturday (0-1), the criticism would help him in a hypothetical semifinal of the Champions League. “It is part of today’s football to always be criticized or on the tightrope. We have to be good and strong, with a cool head and always think about the next game, which at this moment is Benfica”, he added.

Although in recent days the Milan press has speculated that Inzaghi’s hours could be counted, he said the rumors are “not” anything new. “Here at Inter, if you read that before the Barcelona or Porto games, the same thing happened.”

Lastly, if he continued with his poor run of results, he downplayed the fact that he was the one being criticized instead of the footballers: “As for me and my squad, criticism helps us improve more and more.”
