Simeone: “Nothing has been decided yet until it happens”

Children’s Day at Atlético: “Hopefully tomorrow they can put on a great game for all the children”

MADRID, 20 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Atlético de Madrid coach, Diego Pablo Simeone, assured that despite the defeat against relegated Elche on the last day and letting second place escape, there is still “nothing decided” and, against Osasuna in the Metropolitan, he wants to see his players fight for victory and celebrate Children’s Day at the mattress club.

“Nothing has been decided yet until it happens and we think about tomorrow’s rival, who has been having a very good season and continues to grow year after year with his coach. They play well, have a good rhythm, they will bet on reaching the top in table to be in Europe next year”, highlighted Osasuna at a press conference.

“We had been playing good games, we did not have a good first half in the Elche field,” he acknowledged. “But we had situations to win the game, to be forceful. We have three games this week and the players want to play,” he qualified.

In addition, against Osasuna, Atlético will celebrate Children’s Day, one more motivation for the ‘colchoneros’ in a more familiar environment. “I remember that when I was a boy I used to go with my dad to watch the games and it was exciting. Tomorrow there will be a lot of people and a lot of kids who admire the footballers. Hopefully tomorrow they can play a great game for all the children there may be,” said the technical.

“I don’t know if fewer kids go now than before. I see a lot of them. It’s clear that coming to the stadium as a dad almost makes you pay more attention to the child than to the game. But when the 6-9 year olds start to live and feel the game, it’s a very nice communion between dad and mom and son or daughter. It’s a fantastic plan as a family and in our stadium it’s one of the forces we have,” he reiterated.

Asked about Jan Oblak’s back problems, he assured that the first thing is to think about the goalkeeper’s health and then look at him as a footballer. “He feels better, because of the comments he has made to us. Waiting for him to recover in the best way and then we will see if he can reach the end of the season, or for the next one,” he said.

“All the teams suffer injuries during the season. Three of the injuries are not muscular. It is a game of contact and intensity, normally there are injuries. Years of more or less luck”, he pointed out about the six injuries currently in the group .

Lastly, he wished the best for the player Virginia Torrecilla, who will leave the women’s team at the end of the season and will experience a tribute in the duel against Osasuna. “Always be close to her and accompany her in the wonderful moment that she is going to live tomorrow for what she has done for her at the club and wish her the best from now on,” he was sincere.
