The coach of Atlético de Madrid, Diego Pablo Simeone, recognized the “illusion” generated by seeing his squad plugged in, with Joao Félix and Álvaro Morata at a particularly good moment, after the debut in LaLiga Santander with a 0-3 win over Getafe .
“Getafe did not have forcefulness, they did not finish well, they demanded us to defend. After the second goal, the game changed. We had more calm. There are things to improve but without a doubt the team is working very well,” he said at a press conference.
The ‘Cholo’ did not hide that the match could have been different but he highlighted the level in which his team arrives at the beginning of the season. Morata, author of a double, and Félix, with two luxury assists, were the most outstanding. “I am not the owner of the club, I am the coach. Morata is doing very well, he has been working in an extraordinary way and all of us who are with him today hope that he can continue with us, of course,” he said.
“He came with a lot of humility, wanting to work, without demanding anything, but making an effort to have this form,” he added about the Madrilenian. “More and more mature, more and more strong, he showed it in the 14 finals we had last season until he got injured,” he said of the Portuguese.
“He is growing, he is perceived on the field with weight. He sees better than the others. The pass for the first goal is very good, the second is even better. He is in a great moment and I hope he continues to grow because he is in an ideal moment of his career. He has talent, he has speed, he has a goal and hopefully he can sustain it,” he concluded.
