Shakira responds with a strong statement to the accusations of new tax fraud: “I have not received any notification”

The singer’s legal team has reacted with a strong statement to the new accusations of tax fraud, this time related to the 2018 financial year. As reported this Thursday morning through the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC), a judge from Esplugues de Llobregat has opened a second case against Shakira for tax fraud.

In the statement, the Colombian artist’s lawyers assure that their client has not received any notification in this regard: “Shakira has not received any notification about the lawsuit that today the media claim has been filed for the year 2018. Once again, as has been the case for all these years, it is through the media that the singer has found out about the filing of this lawsuit, evidencing the media and reputational pressure to which she is subjected.”

In this way, they add: “The singer’s legal team will not make any comments until the notification reaches her through the formal and legally established channels. As is publicly known, and as the Spanish Treasury was officially notified, Shakira has resided in Miami for a few months, so she must be notified personally at her new address, in strict accordance with the Law.”

Gerard Piqué’s ex, installed in Miami with her children since last April, continues to defend her innocence: “As she has already moved on numerous occasions, Shakira defends having always acted in accordance with the law and under the advice of the best tax experts. Now she is focused on her artistic life in Miami and is calm and confident in the favorable resolution of her tax matters.”

The Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) has detailed in a statement this Thursday that in this case she is being investigated for two alleged crimes against the Treasury for personal income tax and assets from 2018. The singer has already been investigated and awaits trial, scheduled for November 20, for allegedly defrauding the Treasury of 14.5 million euros between 2012 and 2014.
