Sevilla recounts its coronavirus crisis to the Los Angeles Times

The worst moments of the coronavirus pandemic have come to the United States later than in Spain, but the North American country is already feeling it in its meat with all virulence. The Los Angeles Times, a prestigious Californian newspaper, wanted to push the crisis in the elite Spanish sport and for this they turned to Seville. Monchi and Captain Jesús Navas describe it this way for the other side of the pond, almost the World:

“We have to be responsible, for the memory of the thousands of Spaniards and people around the world who are dying because of this virus”, states the Nerve sports director. “You have to see how the pandemic evolves. Logically, I want to be optimistic. But nothing makes sense if we don't first defeat the coronavirus. First there is health and then everything else will come.”

“The best thing, at least for me, in the life of a footballer is to live day to day in the locker room. Especially if it is a healthy locker room, with a good group like the one we have this year. They talk to each other and motivate each other. I try to see the bright side of things, even in this difficult situation. So I think our group can come back much stronger. Everything will pass and it will be fine. And when we get out of it we will give much more value than before to the things and moments of our lives, “adds Monchi.

“Monchi made it clear to us that this is not a vacation”, Navas says. “He wants us to do our best and not lose our shape. It is strange to work alone. But every day I do a demanding exercise routine. Our nutritionist is also in constant contact with us.”

The captain of Sevilla is clear: “We are professionals and we have to demonstrate it now more than ever. I take this as a challenge for personal improvement. As a captain I want to be an example for my teammates. This situation is a challenge for any elite athlete. In adverse moments is when people bring out the best in themselves. And as professional footballers we have to do just that. “
