Seven’s ‘Leones’ and ‘Leonas’ groups defined to fight to remain in Madrid

MADRID, 20 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish men’s rugby 7s team will face Samoa, Kenya and Chile in Group B of the Rugby Sevens World Series Finals, which will be held in Madrid from May 31 to June 2 at the Cívitas Metropolitano Stadium, event in which it seeks permanence among the 12 best teams in the world, as a women’s team that, with the same objective, is framed in Group A with Japan, China and Poland.

Both ‘Leones’ and ‘Leonas’ already know the rivals against whom they will fight for permanence in the circuit among the 12 best teams in the world in the last and decisive World Series that will be held in Madrid from May 31 to June 2 at the Civitas Metropolitan Stadium.

Having finished overall among the last four teams after the dispute of the seven rounds, tenth position in the case of the ‘Lions’ and twelfth in the case of the ‘Lionesses’, both teams will have to fight to maintain their place in the circuit in Madrid.

They will do so against the teams that have not qualified to compete for the title, that is, those classified from ninth to twelfth position, in addition to the best four teams from the Challenger – the second world division of the Olympic category -.

The ‘Lions’ have been placed in Group B, in which they will compete against Samoa (11th in the Series), Kenya (2nd in the Challenger) and Chile (3rd in the Challenger). After the group stage, in which they will play two games on Friday and one on Saturday, on Sunday they will face the last and definitive duel that will decide their fate.

Depending on the results obtained, they will face the United States (9th in the Series), Canada (12th in the Series), Uruguay (1st in the Challenger) or Germany (4th in the Challenger) and the winner will remain one more season competing in the circuit among the 12 best teams in the world.

Regarding the women’s team, they will compete in the preliminary phase in Group A against Japan (9th in the Series), China (1st in the Challenger) and Poland (4th in the Challenger). The final matches for permanence could face Brazil (10th in the Series), South Africa (11th in the Series), Argentina (2nd in the Challenger) or Belgium (3rd in the Challenger).
