Setback for El Litri: the Prosecutor’s Office sues him for extracting millions of liters of water illegally together with Doñana

The former bullfighter and husband of Casilda Ybarraallegedly, would have extracted the water to irrigate his olive grove field in Carrascalejo, a town located approximately 40 kilometers from Seville.

When the former bullfighter acquired this farm in 2019, the land was dry land but he converted it to irrigated land. According to advance The countrythe Public Ministry accuses him of an alleged crime against the environment and damage to the public hydraulic domain.

“The volume of water illegally withdrawn from 2019 to date is estimated at around 2,392,950 cubic meters, which for such a volume would mean damage to the public hydraulic domain of around 574,308 euros,” the complaint states. They accuse him of deteriorating the underground water reserve with four illegal wells on his farm.

The water was allegedly extracted from Campo de Tejada, near Doñana. This aquifer is located very close to the Guadiamar River and is protected with a green corridor classified as Red Natura 2000. The environmental organization WWF filed a complaint against it and the Prosecutor’s Office filed a complaint against it 15 months ago. Also against his company, Santa María del Río, SL, with which he manages this property.

As a result, the court ordered the precautionary closure of the four wells and the irrigation pond on the farm. As Litri’s lawyer, Manuel Macías, told the aforementioned weekly newspaper, the Seprona of the Civil Guard goes to the property every two weeks to check that it is not irrigated.
