Sergio Ramos-Real Madrid: a soap opera with a happy ending in 2015

The soap opera to renew is not something new in the relationship that unites Sergio Ramos and Real Madrid since the summer of 2005 came from Sevilla. In 2015 there were some talks that reached moments of maximum tension in which the final agreement was jeopardized. Those conversations threatened to break down when Manchester United appeared on the scene. The English team contacted the player's environment at the end of the 2014-15 season to offer him a succulent contract and make you the leader of the team.

Ramos had moments of Doubts because the English offer was tempting, although his wish was always to stay at Real Madrid, since he was the first captain of the team (Iker Casillas had gone to Porto that summer). That offer, yes, served the Andalusian to press even more to Madrid, that the two captains of the first team could not be allowed to leave in a few months. Also, that Sergio's goal in the Lisbon final against Atlético (2014) was very recent in the memory of the fans.

That soap opera had a happy ending and was staged on August 17, 2015, when Real Madrid prepared an act for Ramos to publicly announce that extended his contract until 2020. The defender posed smiling next to Florentino Pérez. With that gesture the club wanted to give even more stripes to its new captain, since at that time the only act to announce a renewal had been the made to Cristiano on September 15, 2013. With the rest of the players, the announcement of the renewals was limited to an announcement on the club's website and, at most, a photo with the president that was distributed to the media.

That was not the last renovation of Ramos. In 2017 extended their relationship one more season (until 2021, the contract he currently has). His salary was improved. That time there was no official announcement from either Real Madrid or the player. The relationship between the president and the player was very fluid and this time the negotiations soon came to fruition, since all parties were in agreement from the beginning. Something that does not happen now …
