The captain of Real Madrid added 426 games and surpassed Hines
MADRID, 3 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The captain of Real Madrid, Sergio Llull, became the player with the most Euroleague appearances in the history of the competition this Friday, with the 426 he played in the victory over Bayern Munich (88-76) at the Movistar Arena.
Llull jumped onto the court from the bench at the end of the first quarter and the match stopped for a few moments under the recognition of the entire Madrid pavilion. With this 19th round of the Euroleague, the white captain has made 426 appearances in the top continental competition, breaking the tie with Kyle Hines.
On February 14, 2008, Llull made his Euroleague debut against Zalgiris Kaunas in Vistalegre. A unique player, due to his character and scoring ability in critical moments, as he has demonstrated countless times, such as in the final two years ago against Olympiacos, with an impossible basket for Madrid’s eleventh European Cup, his third in particular (2015, 2018 and 2023).
Mahón’s ’23’ has spent 18 seasons in Madrid and was included in the Euroleague team of the decade (2010-2020). “Llull must be congratulated because he is incredible. He is a player who wanted to wear the Real Madrid shirt and its badge despite dizzying offers from across the pond. That is something to applaud. He helps us all compete every day,” said the white coach, Chus Mateo, at a press conference.
