Second reappearance without the prince, but with Alcaraz

About five months away from public life, Kate Middleton She reappeared last June at the celebration of the birthday of Charles III, at the Trooping the Colour, attending a public event for the first time after announcing in March that she suffers from cancer. Furthermore, this Saturday it was confirmed that the Princess of Wales, despite being undergoing preventive chemotherapy treatment, will be present this Sunday at the final of the championship in Wimbledon, which will see her face Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic.

With the intention of gradually returning to public life and assuming her institutional responsibilities, the daughter-in-law of Charles III will preside over the grand final at the All England Tennis Club in London. For eight years, the wife of William of England has presented these trophies, starring in images that will go down in history. In the latest edition, in 2023, she presented the award to Carlos Alcaraz from Murcia.

As a tournament patron and a tennis fanatic, Kate is an unavoidable face at the award ceremony. Although it was last Saturday that the Princess of Wales’s presence at Wimbledon was confirmed, there was no confirmation until then: “We hope that the Princess of Wales will be able to present the trophies as patron of the club, but her health and recovery is the priority.“, said Debbie Jevansthe director of the competition, Telegraph Sport.

With her presence now confirmed, Kate will continue the British Royal Family’s tradition of the tournament. In 1947, it was George VI who presented the trophies, having himself played in the championships as Duke of York. Queen Elizabeth II, meanwhile, presented the Venus Rosewater Dish to British player Virginia Wade.

This Sunday will be the second time that Kate has attended a public event since she has been battling her illness. Accustomed to relying on Prince William, the daughter-in-law of Charles III will face this public appearance without her husband; he will be in Berlin to support England in the Euro Cup final against Spain, where he will meet King Felipe VI and Infanta Sofia.
