Seattle, to the semis at the expense of the Lion

The Colombian Fredy Montero scored this Thursday the goal with which the Seattle Sounders tied at home 1-1 with the Lion in the second leg of the quarterfinals to win the series 4-1 and confirm themselves in the semifinals of the Champions League of the Concacaf.

Montero’s goal, who scored three goals in the series, made the tie uphill for León, who cut back with a goal from Fidel Ambriz. Seattle will face MLS champion New York City in the semifinals, which eliminated Guatemalan Comunicaciones on Tuesday.

León dominated possession in the first half with 74 percent, but was unable to open the scoring. The clearest arrival of the box led by the Argentine Ariel Holan was in the 14th minute with a header from Fidel Ambriz that crashed into the crossbar.

After three minutes of the first half, the Sounders bet on the counterattack and the Brazilian Joao Paulo Mior was shot down by the Colombian William Tesillo inside the area and the penalty was converted by Montero, who made it 0-1 by deceiving goalkeeper Rodolfo Cota.

León remained dominant in the second half, but the ball was slow to enter due to the performance of goalkeeper Stefan Frei, who in the 62nd and 82nd minutes stopped two shots on goal by the Peruvian-Mexican Santiago Ormeño, and in 87 another from Chilean Jean Meneses.

The locals shook off the bad aim in added time, and in the 91st minute José Ramírez crossed a pass from the right wing that Ambriz, with his head, made it 1-1.
