Scottie Scheffler, 'Player of the Year' on the PGA Tour ahead of Jon Rahm

The American wins the Jack Nicklaus Award for the second consecutive season

MADRID, 3 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

This Wednesday, the PGA chose the American Scottie Scheffler, current world number 1 and winner of the PLAYERS Championship 2023, as the PGA Tour's 'Player of the Year', having been voted ahead of the Spanish Jon Rahm, the also American Wyndham Clark, from the Norwegian Viktor Hovland and the Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy.

Scheffler thus won the Jack Nicklaus Award for the second consecutive season, being the first to do so since his compatriot Tiger Woods won the award three times in a row between 2005 and 2007.

Another American, Eric Cole, was named 'Rookie of the Year' on the same PGA Tour and received the Arnold Palmer Award for it. Cole achieved two runner-up finishes in 2023, including the Cognizant Classic (lost in a playoff) and the Zozo Championship.

Both awards are determined by member voting, and PGA Tour members who played in at least 15 official FedExCup events during the 2022/23 season were eligible. “The voting period was extended from December 1 to December 15,” the PGA said on its website.

Scheffler received 38% of the votes for the Jack Nicklaus Award, beating Rahm, Clark, Hovland and McIlroy. Meanwhile, Cole received 51% of the votes for the Arnold Palmer Award and beat the Colombian Nico Echavarría and also the Swedes Ludvig Aberg and Vincent Norrman.

In addition, Scheffler received the Byron Nelson Award for having recorded the lowest scoring average on the entire PGA Tour during the 2022/23 season. At 68.63, his average was the lowest on the circuit since Woods (68.05) in 2009.
