Saudi Arabia first announced its intention to bid for the 2034 edition of the tournament last Wednesday, when FIFA announced that the candidacy of Spain, Portugal and Morocco would host the 2030 event. The entity, the only applicant for the 2034 tournament – the deadline to announce candidacies is October 31 – insisted on “the social and economic transformation” that Saudi Arabia is experiencing, as well as “the country’s long-standing love for football” as a positive point of the candidacy, which promises “an exciting and memorable event for fans”.
