Saudi Arabia formally begins the bidding process for the 2034 World Cup

“The SAFF submitted a letter of intent (LOI) and signed a declaration to FIFA to apply to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup,” the Asian organization announced on its website.

Saudi Arabia first announced its intention to bid for the 2034 edition of the tournament last Wednesday, when FIFA announced that the candidacy of Spain, Portugal and Morocco would host the 2030 event. Now, this letter sent by the president of the SAFF, Yasser Al Misehal, officially confirms his commitment to embark on the process established by FIFA and “make the dreams” of the country come true.

“The intention to bid for the 2034 World Cup is a historic first and reflects the nation’s objectives of unlocking new football opportunities at all levels and the commitment to supporting the growth of the game in all corners of the world,” highlighted the SAFF. in his statement.

The entity, the only applicant for the 2034 tournament – the deadline to announce candidacies is October 31 – insisted on “the social and economic transformation” that Saudi Arabia is experiencing, as well as “the country’s long-standing love for football” as a positive point of the candidacy, which promises “an exciting and memorable event for fans”.

Yasser Al Misehal stated that this letter sent to FIFA is “the second step in a hugely exciting journey that the nation is embarking on.” “The 2034 World Cup is our invitation to the world to witness the development of Saudi Arabia, experience its culture and become part of its history,” he said.

“We are very committed to presenting the most competitive bid possible, to unite the world through football,” said the president, who confirmed the support of 70 member federations to host the tournament.

Saudi Arabia has been named the host of the 2023 Club World Cup and the 2027 Asian Cup, in addition to having stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Sadio Mané, Neymar, Mahrez, Kanté, among others. The country also hosts a Formula 1 Grand Prix, equestrian events, golf tournaments and will host the 2029 Asian Winter Games.
