Sara Sorribes wins the WTA tournament in Cleveland

The Spanish, who entered the main draw as a ‘lucky loser’, wins the second title of her record

MADRID, 26 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Sara Sorribes was proclaimed champion of the Cleveland (United States) tournament this Saturday, in the 250 category for the WTA and held on a hard court, by winning (3-6, 6-4, 6-4) in the final against Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova.

Sorribes made a spectacular comeback to be crowned for the second time on the circuit, after being champion in Guadalajara (Mexico) in 2021. The woman from Castellón, who started 2023 in April after a long injury, triumphed in the American event to confirm her progress in the last months.

The woman from Castellón, who will arrive strongly at the US Open, signed a long-suffering victory by going ‘break’ down in the second set and, twice, also ‘break’ down in the third. Sorribes thus culminated an epic week in which she entered the main draw with the play-off after losing in the last round of the qualifying round, the sixth ‘lucky loser’ to win a tournament in WTA history.
