Sara Andrés and Yassine Ouhdadi give Spain another two silver medals in the Paralympic World Championships

MADRID, 13 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The athletes Sara Andrés and Yassine Ouhdadi, respectively in 100 meters T64 and 1,500 meters T13, gave the Spanish team another two silver medals this Thursday during the fifth day of the Paralympic Athletics World Championships, which is taking place in Paris (France). .

In the morning session, Ouhdadi achieved his second medal in this World Cup. He did it with his second position in those 1,500m of the T13 category, thanks to a mark of 4:00.92. Three days after becoming world champion in the 5,000m, he got his second metal in an exciting race. It was very tactical and it was only resolved in the final stretch, where the Catalan overtook three of his rivals in the sprint.

Ahead of Ouhdadi, the gold was won by Tunisian Rouay Jebabli (4:00.23), who started as a great favorite by virtue of being Paralympic runner-up. Meanwhile, he and Ouhdadi were joined on the podium by the Algerian Abdellatif Baka, bronze medalist (4:01.13).

For her part, Sara Andrés faced a demanding T64 category, in which four participants with prosthetic legs ran the 100 meters in less than 13 seconds. She was only resisted by the world record holder Fleur Jong, an athlete from the Netherlands, who marked a time of 12.47; not in vain, the Spanish made a record of 12.83, surpassing the Canadian Marissa Papaconstantinou, third with 12.95.

The Spanish Paralympic Committee (CPE) indicated in a press release that “Andrés’ medal also means his automatic classification for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, which he will face with the enormous motivation of the current result and the great progression that the Madrid athlete is proving.”

With the two silver medals won this Thursday on the tartan of the Parisian Charléty Stadium, there are now nine medals for the Spanish team. His baggage responds at the moment to two golds, four silvers and three bronzes, still being in the middle of the competition.
