Santi Bueno: present and future of the defense of Girona

Girona's season, whatever happens in the playoff final against Rayo Vallecano, has been to frame. Francisco's team has gone from less to more and his end of the campaign has served to catapult him and be, now, only two games from giving again, two years later, the jump to the First Division. Many are the 'guilty' of the good work of Girona this course and, without a doubt, one of them is Santi Good. The Uruguayan central defender, after a last year in which he only played one League match and one Cup match, he has knocked the door open for the Girona first team and professional football. At 22 he has conquered Francisco and It has been confirmed as a guarantee center for both the present and the future. In Girona they stand out and, in addition, they can be calm because they have it well tied: has a contract until 2024.

The qualitative leap that Santi Bueno has taken with respect to recent seasons has been tremendous because only two years ago I was in Second B at Peralada. Based on effort and good manners, he has earned a place in the Girona first team and Francisco has not hesitated to give him minutes because whenever he has granted them, Bueno has responded. This campaign now has 41 games (36 in the League, three in the Cup and two in the playoffs) and since he was a substitute on matchday 11 against Las Palmas there has been a maxim: if he is available he is untouchable. And the verification is that, after that duel against the Canarian bloc, only two games have been lost and both by suspension, against Albacete and Oviedo.

Santi Bueno has shone both in defense and attack. The numbers support him because in the 36 league games he has accumulated, he has signed an assist and two goals against, precisely, Rayo in Vallecas and Málaga. If on an offensive level it contributes, back it shines. He managed to finish the League being, in comparison with the players of First and Second, the one who recovered the most balls (84). In First, the leader was Casemiro of Real Madrid with 70, and in Second, David Fernández del Alcorcón with 67.
