MADRID, 8 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The FC Barcelona goalkeeper Sandra Paños has not been named among the three finalists for FIFA’s ‘The Best’ award for ‘Best Goalkeeper’, while the Belgian Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid) and the Moroccan Yassine Bono (Sevilla) will opt for the award in the male category.
The Alicante, runner-up in Europe with her club, with which she won the Spanish League, Cup and Super Cup, had entered among the six candidates, but she has not passed the second ‘cut’ and has been left out of a race that will lead the English Mary Earps, European champion with her national team, Chilean Christiane Endler, winner of the Champions League with French Olympique de Lyon, and German Ann-Katrin Berger, continental runner-up with her country and league champion with Chelsea.
For its part, in the men’s category, of the five goalkeepers initially selected, the finalists will be the Argentine Emiliano Martínez, key in the conquest of the World Cup by the Albiceleste and favorite, and two goalkeepers from LaLiga Santander such as the Belgian Thibaut Courtois, whose role was vital for Real Madrid to win the Champions League, and the Moroccan Yassine Bono, who shone with his team in Qatar 2022.
