Sampaoli: “The team lost, but they got through and played very well”

MADRID, 23 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Sevilla’s coach, Jorge Sampaoli, highlighted his team’s pass to the Europa League round of 16, beyond the defeat (2-0) this Thursday against PSV at the Philips Stadium, while condemning the incident with Dmitrovic, when a fan jumped onto the pitch to attack him.

“The team played a great game, better than in Seville, and was dominant almost all the time. In a couple of plays, they almost turned us into rugby. The team lost unfortunately, but they got through the tie and played very well,” he said in statements to the club media.

The Andalusian team made good the 3-0 in the first leg to overcome the ‘playoff’ of the Europa League, suffering before the characteristics of PSV. “We only had one central defender and they are tall and strong and they won those balls, which made it difficult for us in a match that was extremely favorable in development,” he said.

“A fan came in to hit him, but these are things that I really don’t understand how the referee didn’t take another measure. If this is accepted, anything will happen from now on,” he said about the attack on Dmitrovic. “You have to wait for the draw and see who we prepare with,” he said, without preferences for the draw.
