Sainz: “We missed fifth place at the last stop”

MADRID, 24 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish driver Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) has assured that he has “escaped” the fifth position of the Japanese Grand Prix in the “last stop” of the race, which has not allowed him to maintain the “fight” with the British Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), and considers that the result “does not reflect the pace” he had during the appointment.

“He got away from us at that last stop, maybe we stayed out too long and the fight with Hamilton got away from us. I was very fast the whole race, I made a good start, I had a good degradation, so I’m quite happy with the pace. The bad thing is that the result doesn’t reflect the pace I had, and we lost a little in the last stop,” he said in statements to DAZN.

In this sense, he considers that those from Woking were achievable, as demonstrated by the Monegasque Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), who finished fourth. “I feel like today we had a better pace than the Mercedes. It’s a shame that they undercut us because I think before the last stop I was four seconds ahead, and I started eight seconds behind,” he said.

“We have been fast throughout the race, with good degradation. After Saturday’s problems I have been much more comfortable with the car, I was attacking well, saving the tire well. So, in general, I am happy,” concluded the Spaniard. .
