Sainz: “I want to finish my job, not like in Monza”

“I’m in my best moment since I arrived at Ferrari”

MADRID, 16 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish driver Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) has been “pleasantly surprised” with the performance of his car in qualifying for the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix, in which he achieved pole position, in addition to acknowledging that he is at his “best.” moment” since his arrival at the ‘Scuderia’, and hopes to “finish” his “job” on Sunday.

“I want to finish my job, not like in Monza,” he said at the press conference after the qualifying session in Marina Bay. “I’m pleasantly surprised with the car, because we’ve always had problems. We’ve done a great job understanding the aerodynamic package,” he added.

In this sense, he assured that he feels “a little like in Monza” at the level of sensations. “We have found the configuration since Free Practice 1 and we have been strong in all the sessions. We have done everything well in Q3, I have focused on not making any mistakes, doing a clean lap. If you do it cleanly here in Singapore, normally you take pole. We were able to focus to make a good lap,” he stressed.

“I think it’s the story of our season. We have a good car on certain tracks and in certain conditions, one lap, and in these short apexes and quick changes of direction it seems that our car behaves very well. When we improve our weakness, “which is always the race pace, where we pay a high price, the team improves. The team has done a great job to understand the package and we are progressing, always keeping in mind that Ferrari has always done well here,” he continued.

Regarding the Red Bull debacle, eliminated in Q2, the man from Madrid downplayed its importance. “You can never rule out Max -Verstappen- or Red Bull because of the pace they have had throughout the year. I think it will be a difficult race to manage, but if we nail it we have a great opportunity tomorrow,” he said.

Finally, Sainz confessed that he is in one of his best moments at the ‘Scuderia’. “I’m driving better, perhaps I’m in my best moment since I arrived at Ferrari. But we have to improve the race pace, and tomorrow is a good test to know if we have achieved it,” he concluded.
