Sabalenka and Sakkari reach the semifinals of the WTA Finals

MADRID, 5 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Greek Maria Sakkari and the Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka have advanced to the semifinals of the WTA Finals, which are being played in Fort Worth (United States), after beating the Tunisian Ons Jabeur (6-2, 6-3) already the American Jessica Pegula (6-3, 7-5), respectively, on the last day of the Nancy Richey Group.

Sabalenka, seeded seventh, had an even duel against the local tennis player and passed the pressure on to the number two in the world, Jabeur, who would be left without second place in the group and the pass to the semifinals if she gave up a set against Sakkari, what finally happened.

Now, Sabalenka will face the Polish Iga Swiatek in the semifinals, while Sakkari awaits in the same round the winner of this Saturday’s match between the Russian Daria Kasatkina and the French Caroline Garcia.
