LONDON, 18 Jul. (PA Media/dpa/ep) –
Former Manchester United player and former Wales manager Ryan Giggs has been found not guilty in the domestic violence trial of his ex-girlfriend, Kate Greville, after the prosecution dropped the charge.
Giggs was due to stand trial for a second time on July 31, charged with aggressive behavior towards Kate Greville between August 2017 and November 2020, and assault for headbutting her. In addition, Greville’s sister, Emma, also sued the Welshman for elbowing her in the jaw during a fight.
The former soccer player, who denied the wrongdoing, was subjected to a month-long trial that ended without any verdict by the jury. For this reason, the prosecutors requested a new one, which was scheduled to start on July 31. However, this Tuesday Peter Wright told the court that the Prosecutor’s Office was not going ahead with the case, indicating Greville’s “unwillingness” to testify at trial, since the former had “taken its toll” on her and her sister, adding that it was not a decision “taken lightly”.
Judge Hilary Manley decided to find Giggs not guilty, who feels “deeply relieved that the prosecution has come to an end” after almost three years in which he has been fighting at all times to “clear his name”, according to said his attorney, Chris Daw.
After a successful career at Manchester United, Giggs was named the new coach of his country in 2018, a position that he had to leave because of this accusation and that deprived him of being in the 2021 Euro Cup and in the last World Cup. from Qatar.
