Rupert Murdoch apologizes to Prince Harry, admits illegal activities and pays him millionaire compensation

This Wednesday, Prince Harry reached an agreement with the News Group Newspapers (NGN) group, owned by magnate Rupert Murdoch.editor of The Sun. The Duke of Sussex has received “a full and unequivocal apology” at the High Court in London “for phone hacking, surveillance and misuse of private information by journalists and private investigators hired by them” in the now defunct News of the World. Harry’s lawyer, David Sherborne, has reported that the group will take care of the damages with “substantial compensation.”

The Duke of Sussex sued NGN for intrusion into privacy after being wiretapped, in addition to other invasions of his personal life. An espionage battle whose trial began this Tuesday, January 21. Harry, who lives in Montecito, Los Angeles, did not attend this first day, thus denying that he would receive “limited police protection” during his stay on British soil.

Harry sued the Murdoch group, claiming that journalists and private investigators hired by the publications persecuted him and his family between 1996 and 2011. “NGN further apologizes to the duke for the impact the extensive coverage and “the serious intrusion into his private life, as well as into the private life of Diana, Princess of Wales, his late mother, particularly during her younger years.”have explained from NGN to the Court. We acknowledge and apologize for the distress caused to the Duke and the harm inflicted on relationships, friendships and family.and we have agreed to pay you substantial compensation. “We also acknowledge, without admitting any illegality, that NGN’s response to the 2006 arrests and subsequent actions were regrettable.”

The youngest son of Carlos III had planned a trip in February to appear before the judge and give explanations about his accusations the Murdoch group of having been victims of invasions of privacy. This was going to be his return home just as five years have passed since Megxit, the step back he took with his wife, Meghan Markle, and for which he left the Royal House and his official duties, settling with his family in California.

During these post-megxit years, Harry kept another front open, in addition to his battle against the tabloids: his fight for his safety and that of his family when they set foot on British soil. Through this lawsuit, the monarch’s son asked the Ministry of the Interior for a protection team to ensure his safety, like other active members of the House. The High Court ultimately ruled against him, but he has appealed.
