The president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales, bets on a World Cup for national teams “every four years”, against FIFA’s claim to make it a biennial, in order, he said, to “take care of the artists”, alluding to the players.
“We have to take care of the artists, the footballers,” said Rubiales to defend his position of playing the World Cup every four years, as before, during his speech this Friday at the Granada Connected Forum held in this Andalusian city.
“Since we arrived at the Federation we have tried to reduce the number of matches that are played in the competitions that depend on us”, highlighted the president of the RFEF.
The leader commented that he is “very confident” that the Spanish team can qualify for the next World Cup in Qatar, although he recalled that “in football any detail counts and is important.”
“I hope we qualify. In this transition things are being done well, with very young players. Magnificent results have been achieved in the last big trophies and hopefully we will carry out the next matches,” he stressed.
