Rotterdam (Netherlands) will organize, from August 6 to 20, the Paralympic European Championships, in which ten sports are played and in which there will be Spanish representation in all of them in search of qualifying for the Paris 2024 Games.
More than 1,500 athletes will compete in the Ahoy Rotterdam multi-sports facilities in wheelchair basketball, shooting, chair tennis, badminton, cycling, archery, goalball, judo, taekwondo and boccia, as announced by the Paralympic Committee on Monday. Spanish (CPE).
Wheelchair basketball, scheduled between August 11 and 19, will be one of the attractions, since it distributes two direct qualifying places for the Paralympic event, both in the male and female categories. The Spanish teams arrive in Rotterdam with the aim of getting the long-awaited ticket.
The only sport that already has a guaranteed Spanish presence in Paris is shooting, which will put at stake there will be three places for men and as many for women between the rifle and pistol events, scheduled between August 17 and 20. In wheelchair tennis (from 8 to 13) the winners of each sex will get a ticket to the Games.
Archery will also give two direct places between August 15 and 20, five for men and five for women between the compound bow (2), recurve bow (2) and W1 (1) tests. In boccia, whose competition will take place between August 8 and 14, the winners of the BC1/BC2 team events, BC3 couples and BC4 couples will obtain the Paralympic classification.
In badminton (from August 15 to 20), judo (from August 8 to 10) and taekwondo (from August 14 to 16), the championship will distribute points for the Paralympic ranking. While neither road cycling (from 17 to 20), which only takes into account the World Cups and the World Cups for the classification, and in goalball (from 10 to 13), which will take place in Rotterdam the European category C, the options to play the Games will be played.
This new competition seeks to become a reference every four years and rotate between European cities and other disciplines can be incorporated to achieve a larger sporting event, of a higher level and with more international repercussions.
